A concept I would like to introduce to anyone visiting this site is this, "The Regulative Principle of Civil Government." Basically it means the government may only command that which the Scripture has already commanded or that which Scripture has allowed the Government to command.
Deut. 12:32 “Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it.
Deut. 4:2 Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the LORD your God that I give you.
